The VIU Mariners Hockey Club are excited to announce the hiring of Andrew Riddell as our General Manager moving forward. Andrew was born in Nanaimo, where he grew up playing minor hockey and eventually in the BCHL.
Andrew brings a wealth of experience to the Mariners Hockey program. Prior to his new role, Andrew was the GM of the Oceanside Generals, where he helped to turn the Generals into a legitimate contender in the VIJHL.
On his new role, Andrew had this to say:
"When I finished playing hockey in the BCHL I chose to continue my hockey career at a university in the U.S., (as) at that time VIU did not have a hockey team. If the opportunity to play at my local university had been an option at that time I would have chosen to play here. Now that I’m involved with the Mariners I am honoured to play a part in helping the organization reach its full potential. We are fortunate to have an incredible coaching staff, a board that is dedicated to elevating the organization and the fan experience, and a university that supports us. As the Mariners organization grows we believe the hockey club will be a highly sought post-secondary option. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Nanaimo Ice Centre this fall!"
Andrew has been busy, reeling in commitments from all over Canada for the 2023-2024 season. Join us in the fall for a new era of Mariners Hockey, and stay tuned for more exciting updates this week.
